Toddler found deceased

Kelowna RCMP tells Castanet they are investigating the sudden death of a toddler Monday afternoon.

Mounties were called to the 1300 block of Richter St. at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022, they discovered an 18-month-old male who was found unresponsive.

“These files are always difficult for every first responders and our investigators are committed to making this investigation the priority that it should be,” said Cst. Mike Della-Paolera, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna RCMP.

The BC Ambulance Service and Kelowna Fire were also called and attended the scene; however, the child was pronounced dead.

The Kelowna Serious Crime Unit has now taken over the investigation and they are being supported by the Kelowna Investigative Services, the BC Coroner Service and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

This investigation is in its early stages; Therefore, RCMP will have no further comment.

Police tape has been put up around a small bungalow on Richter St. near downtown Kelowna Monday.

Yellow police tape has gone up around 1328 Richter St. Near Wilson Ave., only a few blocks from RCMP headquarters.

One neighbor contacted Castanet to let us know the yellow police tape went up Sunday and multiple police cruisers and officers have been spotted coming and going from the home.

Castanet has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for more information.
